Mie Ayam Ungu (Purple Noodle with Chicken)

I’ve posted Mie Ayam (Noodle with sweet soy sauce chicken) before. But one of my friend inspired me this noodle when she made rainbow noodle for her daughter. And I’ve told you about this before, that I’m not a big fan of rainbow foods. Just because they required so much work. And I’m a lazy cook my self, so, yeah, only managed to make purple noodle 😀 It’s a short post today since I won’t be sharing any recipes. To make this, you can check my previous Mie ayam, Noodle and Bakso. For the purple noodle, substitute half of the water with beetroot’s juice (from 1 beetroot per noodle recipe). Serve with bok choy, fried onion and chilli suace (sambal).

Simple Pasta with Smoked Mackerel

Once again, you don’t have to have a skill or recipe to have a good meal. This pasta is the proof. As usual, I didn’t have any idea what to cook for dinner. So I was looking at my fridge and pantry to find something I can make for dinner. I found half jar of olives that has been a while in the fridge, Actually we’re not a big fan of olives at home, but I bought it for a new recipe I found (I forgot what) and since then I couldn’t find anything I can use them in. I call this kind of food is, “cleaning the fridge” food.   Ingredients: 500g cooked pasta 200g smoked mackarel 2 tbsp sun dried tomatoes, roughly chopped 50g button mushrooms, sliced 2 tbsp green olives, halves 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped basil salt & pepper olive oil parmesan   How to: Heat 5 tbsp olive oil in a large pan, add minced garlic and saute until fragrance. Add mushrooms. Saute for 1 minute. Add olives, sun dried …

Bakso (Indonesian Meatballs)

UPDATE This was one of my very first post when I started blogging. And since then I’ve been trying to find a good recipe that works for me. And I think I’ve (almost) found it. I updated the recipe below. You can see the difference between the old bakso and the new one I made, also the photo, maybe? 😉 This is one of the food in my top 5 most favourite food list. But I’m not a master of this meatballs (yet). Slightly different style meatballs here. And you can only find in Indonesia of course 🙂 Actually making this balls was very tricky. I’ve made this many many times. Sometime I got the consistency and taste ok but texture not. Sometimes I got texture and consistency ok, taste not. Always like that. Haven’t found the exact method that works for me yet. I promise I’ll update this and share it with you when I found the secret 🙂 In Indonesia you can find various types of bakso. Triangle shaped, rectangular shaped, bakso with fillings (cheese, …

Okonomiyaki (Japanese Savoury Pancake)

Edited: As one of my reader gave me a good information on the sauce that I must have been missed when I bought it. Unfortunately alcohol involved to make this sauce. Therefore, I’m not suggesting my muslim readers to buy it (will try to make a homemade version when I have the chance). But it happened, my bad. I have to be more careful next time. It has been a while since I watched the video how to make okonomiyaki from Cooking with Dog in youtube. Since then I kept searching how to get the sauce and bonito flakes (with reasonable price). I found them in ebay sold by many different sellers. But the shipping price is a little pricey. Until one day, when I shopped in one of Asian shop here, I found both of them and didn’t buy them right away. Why? Because I had to compare the price first 😀 Since everything here is so expensive. After I compared the price, I came back to the shop the next day and buy …

Hainan Chicken Rice

I have lots of friends who like to post food photos on their facebook (mostly Indonesian foods) and always success at making me hungry and drooling. And this recipe is one of the result of looking at those food pictures. I’ve been living in Singapore for 6 months before, but I’ve never tried this food even once. And when I saw one of my friend posting this food picture in her facebook, I suddenly crave for it too. I looked so nice and simple. And I knew I have to make it sometime soon. I’m sure I can find this too in Indonesia, but not in my hometown. At least I think so. The recipe only use few simple ingredients. And it is soooo easy to make. I promise. Although the recipe looks very long and complicated, but don’t worry. It worth to try 🙂 It was really nice. I liked it a lot. The broth is nice, clear and light. Not much going on in your mouth. Sometimes less is more… hehehe 😀   …

Baked Breaded Fish

Aaaahhh… Finally friday.. Thanks God! Very busy week for me. Had to stay in the school more now, because I really want to quickly finish the Swedish course *sigh*. Anyway, I’m skipping school today (bad student! :P) because I’m feeling not so well. So I thought, maybe I should take care my blog a bit extra today? Why not posting another recipe? As you can see here, just another normal and easy dinner I made for my family. The result is a very nice fish even though I baked it. And healthier for sure.  We can call it a slightly healthier version if fish and chips, eh? Ingredients: 500g white fish file (your choice, I used cod) 3 tbsp all purpose flour 2 eggs, lightly beaten 1 tbsp lemon jiuce bread crumbs salt & pepper Sauted Potatoes 750g red skin potatoes (or any type you like), cleaned and sliced 1 paprika, sliced 1/2 tsp rosemary oil salt & pepper   How to: Rub the fish with lemon juice. Let it sit. Prepare your “crumbing” section. …

Nasi Kuning

Nasi = Rice Kuning = Yellow   This is one of my birthday food I made for my self. It is a tradition in Indonesia if we have something good to celebrate of, we usually make nasi kuning. But you can also find this  nasi kuning everywhere in the morning for breakfast 😉 Actually nothing fancy here, just normal side dishes. But you have to have at least 3 different side dishes to make it look nice and taste better. I’ve posted some of the side dishes here too before. In this version (I usually make different side dishes everytime I make nasi kuning, depending on the mood and the fridge :D). Here I have: simple fried noodle, spicy tempe, chicken livers and eggs curry, crackers and of course the yellow rice. Sometime I also add serundeng (spiced toasted coconut) as the side dish but this was last minute celebration, didn’t have coconut in stock. Now the most important part. Cooking the rice. I’m not sure if I should post on the ingredients and how to …

Macaroni Casserole (Schotel)

Hi everyone! This is my first post for this week and also the first for this year. In this chance, I also want to say HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU! Today I have macaroni casserole, or in Indonesia its common name is macaroni schotel. The word schotel borrowed from Dutch language. Usually we add corned beef, smoked beef, chicken or sausages in it. The rest are pretty much the same like other casserole. But nowadays, this casserole has been Indonesianized to suit Indonesian’s taste by adding tofu. No worries though, I didn’t put any tofu here, because I love husband a lot and he’s not a big fan of tofu. However, I forgot to write didn’t know the exact measurements for this recipe. I usually just add the ingredients by feeling (sounds advanced right?) But of course it doesn’t work all the time 😀   Ingredients: 4 cups cooked macaroni 2 eggs 200 ml cream 100 ml milk chorizo / smoked beef / corned beef red paprika, sliced button mushroom, sliced 1/2 medium …

BBQ Pulled Chicken Sandwich

I wonder how many of you suspected that I’d be posting a recipe using pita bread? I love watching food shows. Cooking competition, cooking shows (Nigella, Jamie, Gordon, Rachael Ray and many more), eating shows (Indonesian show called Wisata Kuliner, Man vs Food) and cake decorating shows (Cake Boss, Ace of Cakes). Pretty much all food related shows. And books. So, everytime I watch Man vs Food, Adam Richman always managed to make me hungry. All the foods he ate look very tasty and inviting. Especially when it comes to barbecued foods… ooooh… *drooling* Born and grew up in Indonesia made me in love (naturally) with barbecued foods. The weather is “summer” all year. That allows you to grill foods outside every day. And here is the thing I miss a lot. During new year’s eve, very very common and lots of people are grilling while waiting for the midnight. Usually we grill chicken, fish, prawns, squids and sausage. And of course we do it in Indonesian style (*read it with gangnam style music in …
